selection procedures
USAOK Wrestling has
established the procedures to qualify for the 2009 Cadet and Junior Dual Teams
in Freestyle and Greco-Roman.
An Evaluation Tournament
will be held on May 30th at which time the wrestlers will compete
for positions on the #1 and #2 Freestyle and the Greco Dual Teams. A ranking
system of qualified wrestlers will be established based on specific tournament
finishes and the Oklahoma National Team coaching staff assessment. Junior ranking will be based on placement at
the Westmoore, Broken Arrow and Catoosa tournaments. Cadet ranking will be
based on placement at the Union, Broken Arrow and Catoosa tournaments. The
ranking system is to determine the matches to be held on the evaluation
day. Junior wrestlers that qualify (and
pay their deposits) at Westmoore, Broken Arrow, Catoosa, Fila Juniors or any
Junior Regional and Cadet wrestlers that qualify (and pay their deposits) at
Union, Broken Arrow, Catoosa, Fila Cadets or any Cadet Regional are eligible to
participate in this evaluation process.
All graduated Seniors that are 2009 Oklahoma High School State Champions
are automatically invited to the Evaluation Day.
All participating
Cadet wrestlers must be within 7 pounds of the desired competition weight in
order to evaluate for any position on any of the Dual Teams. All participating
Junior wrestlers must be within 10 pounds of the desired competition weight in
order to evaluate for any position on any of the Dual Teams.
The intention of
this evaluation process is to encourage ALL wrestlers to attend as many
tournaments as possible and get as much experience as possible throughout the
season. Wins and losses during the
season will not determine the line-ups for the Dual Teams. This Evaluation Tournament will give every
qualified wrestler a chance to compete for a position on the Dual Teams.
All Cadet and Junior Dual Team members (except for graduated Seniors) are
required to compete at the Cadet and Junior National Championships in Fargo,
ND. The balance for Dual Team fees and
all deposits for Fargo will be due at the registration for the Evaluation Tournament.
The Oklahoma National Team Coaching Staff reserves the right to continue
the evaluation process until registration at Dual Team competition.
No refunds will be given to any wrestler that is selected for any Dual
Team.
All wrestlers must attend Dual Team Camp.

Dear friends of Oklahoma Wrestling,
With this letter, we are hoping to spark an interest in you to help the
members of the Oklahoma Junior National Team. This team (consisting of Oklahoma
high school wrestlers) will be competing at the National Freestyle and Greco Dual Team
Championships (June
24-28) in Oklahoma City and the Cadet
and Junior National Championships (July 19-27) in Fargo, North Dakota.
The total cost for each team member is approximately $1,350.00. This cost
will cover transportation to and from both events, 2 intensive training camps, housing,
meals and Oklahoma National Team uniforms and equipment.
The National Freestyle and Greco Dual Team Championships in Oklahoma City will consist of teams from states including Pennsylvania,
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington, Indiana, New Jersey, Missouri, New York,
Michigan, Florida, Texas, Kansas, Illinois, Delaware, California and many
others. The Cadet
and Junior National Championships in North Dakota had participants from 43 states and Puerto Rico in 2008. Last year our Oklahoma Junior Dual Team placed
5th in the National Duals.
This year our goal is to be the National Champions! With your help we think this is possible.
Participation in
these competitions is designed to provide Oklahoma’s top wrestlers with maximum
opportunities to compete against elite competition. Because Team Oklahoma requires such a huge
commitment of time and resources, only those athletes that have a desire be
recognized among the BEST wrestlers in the Nation consider attempting to make
this team. They have been training and
competing on weekends in preparation for these competitions.
When our athletes participate in the sport of
wrestling, whether they know it or not, they are learning a lot about life.
They learn persistence, determination, sacrifice, a good work ethic and how to
be part of a team. They form friendships
that extend long past the end of the season. Your partnership with these boys can help make their goal a reality. Please consider a generous tax deductible donation to help these wrestlers compete at these
events.
